Audio: Share a song with powerful lyrics.
And as life has gone on, the lyrics have meant that much more to me...................hugely moving song and never has a song been sung with such vitriol, passion, intensity and meaning........

Do you tend to like music in particular genres, or are your tastes all over the place? What are your most and least favorite musical genres?
This is indeed a good question, as for me, it raises other issues and
debates on music that I have had with many a friend over the years.
I used to like nothing but rock. If it didn't have long hair and a guitar, then it wasnt' worth listening to. But because that was what I knew and my peers, friends and contemporaries were into the same thing, you never really let on that you actually liked something else. Back in the day when I first started getting properly into music, U2 were the rock band enemy. They were hated within the circles of people I knew at the time. But, secretly, I actually quite liked them. But I never bought anything by them, I never listened to them while I was at home.........it just wasn't the done thing. The same with dance music. OOOOOhhhhhh the travesty of listening to something that was entirely electronic! Shock horror! But.......again, some of it, I really liked. But I wouldn't admit it and I wouldn't have bought it. So, I went on, going along with the group ethos and mindset on this...........
But, as I grew up, this started to change. It wasn't that I didn't like the stuff I used to listen to anymore. Not the case at all. I still loved the hair and guitar stuff. I mean......it was my musical staple diet! But, I "let" myself listen to other things and started to rediscover the stuff that I stopped myself from listening to way back in the day, because it wasn't "cool maaaaannnnn"...... and overnight, my record collection got out of control! Ok, I was still listening to old stuff, but this time, it was becoming more and more difficult to fit in the old stuff while I was discovering old genres, old music, or new genres and new music that I wouldn't listen to in a million years a few years before.
Now, I will pretty much listen to anything I like really. There are SOME no go areas. One is country music (to the chagrin of James somewhat!)......I just can't get it. I don't get it, I have tried. But that whining, twangy dirge........its just horrible! Freeform Jazz kinda does the same thing to me (but I like trad jazz. Very different). But on the whole, I like pretty much anything.
But this poses a further question. Does your music taste "change" over time? Well, I had this very discussion with my housemate and a few others and it got quite heated at one point (how silly is that?). THEY said that your taste DOES change. There are songs that you wouldn't listen to now that you would when you were a kid blah blah blah cos your tastes change and you might not like a particular song or tune now when you loved it way back when.
I say this isn't so. Its not that you don't like the older stuff that you don't listen to anymore. You DO still like it as I don't think your tastes can change that much. What I DO think is that you move on and discover other things, you broaden your horizons, you forget about the older stuff and it sounds dated and old and just not of its time when you suddenly hear it again. Its a jolt, its a kick, hence you have a jerk reaction to it. But I wouldn't say there are many records in my collection that I don't like anymore when I used to like them before! The closest I come to that is buying a record off the back of a single release and hearing the rest of the album is crap. I wouldn't necessarily listen to the good song again.......doesn't mean to say I don't like that one song though......
I don't think music taste changes. I just think you become more receptive to what is out there and you start to broaden your tastes, not change them.
I might still be a rocker at heart, but I don't mind admitting that I
love Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat
Caballlllllllellellelelle.......whatever her name is!

And there is a very, very good reason for this.....
When in my second year at Uni, I shared a flat with one other guy. Our bedrooms were at the end of a "corridor" one end of the house. My housemate had brought his stereo with him, but we wanted music in the lounge. So, we wired up an extra set of speakers from his room to the lounge. Great idea......until he took his keys with him when he went out one morning and I had left mine in his room, which he subsequently locked and left THIS tune on repeat on his tape deck coming through the speakers in the lounge!!! I couldn't leave the house as I couldn't get to my keys to lock the door behind me, I couldn't pull the wires out of the speakers as they were good speakers, but had the wire going INTO them instead of plugging in (if I had ripped the wire, I would have broken the speaker) and he wasn't coming back.....for about 6-7 hours!!!!
So, I had to endure, at a relatively loud volume, this bloody song for 7 hours until he come back to get into his room to turn the damn thing off! If I NEVER hear this tune again, it won't be too soon!!! Christ I hate this tune..........
Video: Show us a music video you'd gladly watch over and over again.
I think I have already posted this on here before, but just in case no-one saw it........the greatest and most beautiful video of all time................ STILL gives me shivers every time I see or hear it.......
Radiohead release their seventh studio album today and it's only available online and you set your own price. Will you buy the album? Do you buy the idea?
Yep! And Yep! Will have a think about it, but I reckon about a fiver is
enough. No packaging, no artwork, no middle man to pay, they get all
the money........I like the idea. And doesn't really matter cos if they
tour off the back of this, plus there are going to be die hard fans who
buy the CD next year when they get a record deal and from the Box set
you can get online.......
They are going to make money any which way you look at it............ and good on them! They aren't daft........
What's your musical horoscope? (Put your music player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.) Inspired by Stephanie.
Cor blimey! Good one (although what this has to do with a horoscope, I am not sure........)
So, first song:
"Under African Skies" by Paul Simon
"Words" by Doves
"Soul Power" by mark Flash from the Original Renaissance mix
"Blackout" by Head P.E. (such a BLINDING tune.........)
"Pressure Drop" by the Maytals on the GTA San Andreas soundtrack
"Mountain People" by Super Furry Animals
"Flare is Meteor" by the Longpigs (off the "She Said" single)
"That'll be the Day" bu Buddy Holly
"Still Dre" by Dr Dre
"Untiltled 6" by Sigur Ros from "( )"
Even I am suprised at what came out there to be honest! Eclectic I guess.....................I think it just shows that my music tastes have "broadened" a little since my long hair, leather and ripped jeans days..............
So, anyone going to tell me what this all says about my future then? Cos I for one have no idea!!!
