What quality in your best friend are you most envious of and why?
These aren't things that are present in just one "best friend" of mine. Its qualities I see in all of my friends that I wish I had......
Charm, quick wit, eye for detail, humour, intelligence, thoughtfulness, good looks, height, word play, artistic tendancies, musicality......
There are many. I could go on, but I will just depress myself.......
What is a "charmed life"?
I dont really think there is such a thing. Its all relative. Everyone
has crap in their lives at some point and everyone has good things
happen in their lives too, no matter how bad things can get. Its more
down to how you respond to those things that happen.
I have a friend who seems to have all the luck on his side and everything seems to go right for him, but this clearly isn't the case. He is always having the mickey taken out of him because of this and has become a running joke with many of my friends..............
But...........
He struggled badly at school due to undiagnosed dyslexia. He was taunted and bullied by teachers and was told in no uncertain circumstances that he would never amount to anything.
But...........
He got himself through University, got a degree, albeit a 3rd, but he got one all the same. He now runs his own business turning over a few million a year. Many have seen a lot of things go seemingly right for him and many of us are jealous of him. But, he has worked his ass off to get to where he is and is now reaping the benefits of his determination and hard work. Outsiders would think, knowing what he is like and the things that have happened to him that he has a charmed life as many things seem to have gone his way. But that is all down to him, nothing more. He has overcome pretty crap adversity and has worked damn hard to get to where he is today.
It could be seen as a charmed life..........the truth is that there is
no such thing. Life is what you make it. Some make theirs great, others
do enough.
What aspect of your personality could use a little work?
Errr..........where do I start?
How many push-ups can you do?
A suprising number, even for me to be honest. I am small, but quite strong for my size, so my power to weight ratio isn't too shabby and I can do a fair number of press ups. How many? I have NO idea, cos most of the time I am doing them in sets of reps when either circuit training or doing different gym programs and they both change quite frequently. I would say at least a hundred each session, but I reckon its a fair few more than that some days......
I sound like I am bragging dont I? Maybe I am? Hmmmmm........
2008 is the Year of the Rat. Which animal year were you born in?
I was born a Rat (1972) and I am living as a Rat (this year). Is this good?
Who knows?..........
What do you think is your best physical attribute?

Well, just look at my pictures...........there is VERY little to choose
from for this! I have never been a Michaelangelo's David, I have never
been an oil painting, I am certainly no Adonis, so..............I
dunno.
I guess the one thing I get complimented on is my bum........yeah, I guess that would be it. My bum.
Or my shoulders. I kinda like those...........
Thats about it really.........oh well!
Which one of your ancestors would you most like to talk to?

Strangely, I don't really know that much about my background as my Mothers family were pretty rubbish to be honest. None of them really kept in touch and none of them really got on. It was more a case of the 6 children by my grandparents "tolerated" each other. So, although my Mom DID talk about the stuff when she was a kid and what happened with them, not a lot of it was nice. So I was quite distant from that side.
On my Dads side, its the complete opposite. They are a small family, close nit, but my Grandfather was an orphan and there is no background to him. My Nan came from a VERY large family, but she HER Mom was the illigitimate child of a father who then got married and went on to have another TWELVE kids! So, the history of the family has kind of been lost in the midst........
So, who would I like to talk to? I guess my Mother. There has been a
lot going on since she died and mine and my sisters lives have changed
MASSIVELY since then. And for me, a large part of it has not been good.
I always used to confide and talk to my Mom and she hasn't been around
to do that and just have a shoulder to lean on......and I miss that
desperately. I have wanted to talk to someone for a long, long
time.........yet I can't cos the only person I could talk to with
trust, impartiality, sympathy and straight talk isn't here. So yeah, I
would like to talk to my Mom........a lot........
If you were suddenly granted the day off today, how would you go spend your free time?
Unusually for me..........sleeping. SOOOO tired.........
Do you tend to like music in particular genres, or are your tastes all over the place? What are your most and least favorite musical genres?
This is indeed a good question, as for me, it raises other issues and
debates on music that I have had with many a friend over the years.
I used to like nothing but rock. If it didn't have long hair and a guitar, then it wasnt' worth listening to. But because that was what I knew and my peers, friends and contemporaries were into the same thing, you never really let on that you actually liked something else. Back in the day when I first started getting properly into music, U2 were the rock band enemy. They were hated within the circles of people I knew at the time. But, secretly, I actually quite liked them. But I never bought anything by them, I never listened to them while I was at home.........it just wasn't the done thing. The same with dance music. OOOOOhhhhhh the travesty of listening to something that was entirely electronic! Shock horror! But.......again, some of it, I really liked. But I wouldn't admit it and I wouldn't have bought it. So, I went on, going along with the group ethos and mindset on this...........
But, as I grew up, this started to change. It wasn't that I didn't like the stuff I used to listen to anymore. Not the case at all. I still loved the hair and guitar stuff. I mean......it was my musical staple diet! But, I "let" myself listen to other things and started to rediscover the stuff that I stopped myself from listening to way back in the day, because it wasn't "cool maaaaannnnn"...... and overnight, my record collection got out of control! Ok, I was still listening to old stuff, but this time, it was becoming more and more difficult to fit in the old stuff while I was discovering old genres, old music, or new genres and new music that I wouldn't listen to in a million years a few years before.
Now, I will pretty much listen to anything I like really. There are SOME no go areas. One is country music (to the chagrin of James somewhat!)......I just can't get it. I don't get it, I have tried. But that whining, twangy dirge........its just horrible! Freeform Jazz kinda does the same thing to me (but I like trad jazz. Very different). But on the whole, I like pretty much anything.
But this poses a further question. Does your music taste "change" over time? Well, I had this very discussion with my housemate and a few others and it got quite heated at one point (how silly is that?). THEY said that your taste DOES change. There are songs that you wouldn't listen to now that you would when you were a kid blah blah blah cos your tastes change and you might not like a particular song or tune now when you loved it way back when.
I say this isn't so. Its not that you don't like the older stuff that you don't listen to anymore. You DO still like it as I don't think your tastes can change that much. What I DO think is that you move on and discover other things, you broaden your horizons, you forget about the older stuff and it sounds dated and old and just not of its time when you suddenly hear it again. Its a jolt, its a kick, hence you have a jerk reaction to it. But I wouldn't say there are many records in my collection that I don't like anymore when I used to like them before! The closest I come to that is buying a record off the back of a single release and hearing the rest of the album is crap. I wouldn't necessarily listen to the good song again.......doesn't mean to say I don't like that one song though......
I don't think music taste changes. I just think you become more receptive to what is out there and you start to broaden your tastes, not change them.
I might still be a rocker at heart, but I don't mind admitting that I
love Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat
Caballlllllllellellelelle.......whatever her name is!
